AXE - Destiel AU
Fifthteenth part.
I own nothing but my fantasies.

Dean knew Sam was hiding something the second he came through the door, just by the way he made a big deal out of closing the door after himself before looking up to greet them. Not to mention the way he carefully avoided meeting Dean's eyes even when speaking directly to him.

"How are you?"

"Fine," Dean shrugged a shoulder, "told ya it wasn't deep. You look like shit though. Where've you been?"

"In town." Sam moved into the room to sit down on one of the chairs, tiredly rubbing an eye. Castiel and Dean also sat back down while sharing a worried glance and their hands on the couch between them, intertwined in some kind of unspoken need for comfort from the other.

"With Jess?" Dean pressed on, earning him an annoyed look from Sam.

"Yeah."

"You didn't say anything before leaving."

"Well, you were sleeping at the time so I couldn't really."

"Bobby saw you sneak out…"

"What are you, my mother?" Sam finally irritated interrupted and Dean couldn't help but feel irritation in return.

"Dean was worried about you." Castiel deadpanned, surprising them both into silence, and cutting right to the point. "He had the right to be though. It is getting more and more dangerous being around me. You need to be honest with each other."

"Sorry?" Sam confused asked, silently wondering where he was going with that. Castiel briefly filled him in on how Balthazar had visit one more time the night before, and that he believed the demons to come in greater numbers next time.

"With this in mind it is safe to say that it will only get more dangerous. Dean has decided he will not let me leave him and now I can not leave anymore since my bond to him is to powerful."

"You need to decide what you want to do," Dean said as he had understood where Castiel was going, "because after this there won't be a second chance to decide. If me getting bloody was to much for you to take you should leave now before it's to late. For me it's to late to back out but I'm not asking anything of you, Sammy. I never will."

"I'm not just gonna give up and leave." Sam slowly said and Dean felt both relieved and scared to have him on their side.

"Are you sure? This' some seriously dangerous stuff we're dealing with."

"I know it is, but that's why I've gotta stay. You can't do this all by yourselves." Sam chewed on his bottom lip for a while as if considering what he'd heard, clearly gathering courage now to say what he'd been hiding. "Well… So here's the thing, I've been keeping contact with the guys from that hunter-webpage. I've already told you how they were coming to our town with bad intentions since an angel had been seen here. They've actually been here for a couple of days now, searching the area. And today I finally met up with them in real life."

"What!?" Dean exclaimed in disbelief and Sam frustrated ran his fingers through his hair, as he had already foreseen this reaction.

"Dean, we need them to block out the demons. Balthazar just blocks out the angels around this place. We need someone who can perform the rituals in dad's book and it seems like these hunters might be able to."

"But last time you talked to those nerds they wanted to kill Cas."

"Yeah, but that was before. I mean, in general, fallen angels are dangerous in their eyes. I've explained everything about our situation and they've listened. They've promised that they'll meet with him first before judging. They're not certain they won't judge him, but at least after meeting him they'll be certain if he's a threat or not."

"Well, aren't they tolerant…" Dean sarcastically rolled his eyes, and he slumped further down into the couch to rest his head against the back, feeling the earlier tiredness creep back up.

"I know it sounds douchey," Sam continued though, unaffected in his determination, "but they're really just being careful, aren't they? And to be honest they're pretty much just a bunch of thrill-seeking kids or overexcited college-nerds. I'm not sure they'll ever pose a real threat against an angel."

"So why would we want their help then?"

"Cause they said they had everything we need to protect us and the house from demons. To perform the protecting rituals in dad's book you need stuff we'll never ever get a hold on around here. I mean, where're we gonna get old oak, salt from an ox-bone or 'the tears of three virgins' from? And don't friggin' tell me you can get me that cause I don't wanna hear how." Dean just sighed heavily and shook his head in disbelief.

"This would be the dumbest idea you've ever had."

"You have said that one time before." Castiel suddenly said, interrupting Sam's intended retort. "So this can not really be the dumbest idea he has ever had. Or, maybe the other time wasn't that dumb of an idea now in retrospect?"

"Whaddya talkin' 'bout?" Dean frowned bewildered at the angel's highly questioning look, even more confused considering the misleading fact that he was still holding Dean's hand in his.

"Why would you say that Sam is dumb? You shouldn't say such things about him. He is a righteous man just like you, and very unselfish. He has done nothing but helped. You should trust his judgment."

Sam was no doubt just as surprised as Dean over the unexpected support, but couldn't help to start smiling. It felt better when he got the recognition of not being completely out of his mind. He'd been uncertain himself about contacting the amateur-hunters but now after meeting them, even though they were barely younger than himself, they just seemed so young and so harmless in their eagerness to fight the bad guys. He really hoped he wasn't wrong in thinking they were harmless, when now seeing the angel take his side even against his own lover. It also made him feel better when being back in their company and seeing how deeply in love Dean now was, despite the protesting look on his face at the moment.

"Hey!" Dean exclaimed offended, making an almost pouting face. "I thought you were on my side." Castiel looked confused on him, squinting as if that would make him easier to understand.

"I am on nobody's side but your. But that wasn't what I was asking."

"Don't worry, Cas." Sam smiled to calm him with, while Dean stared at Castiel with a look of total lack of understanding. "He always says that I'm dumb or such things when he's afraid I'll hurt myself. I think he's just thinking about your safety this time. The big old care-bear."

"Only you would make such a reference." Dean mumbled, now most definitely with a pout, and Sam raised a questioning eyebrow.

"Am I wrong then?"

"Shut it." Dean muttered incoherently under his breath, deliberately not to audible since he wasn't gonna lie even if the situation sure did call for it if he wanted to save face.

"Are you angry with me?" Castiel worried asked, squeezing his hand a little closer against his own thigh, and Dean couldn't help but relax his misunderstood frown-face.

"No, Cas. I'm just saying its not safe to trust them yet. Letting them into our house and exposing you to a bunch of strangers who wants everything supernatural dead. It sounds flat out crazy. Can you really blame me for being cautious?"

"I can not and will never blame you for anything."

"Cas." Dean groaned, closing his eyes for a few seconds in embarrassment, and Sam silently snickered at the by now familiar reactions from them both. "Figure of speech!"

"My apologies. I thought you were asking and needed my reassurance."

Dean sighed and looked away from his honest face since he, in the presence of Sam, couldn't look at him and not yield to the desire to kiss him. Damn, how could anyone stay mad at that face?

Sam cleared his throat, discretely showing he wanted his attention again. Dean grimly wondered if he had more bad news in store.

"What?"

"We need those nerds to block out the demons. As I understand it, its either their help or having Balthazar around 24/7."

"Yeah, that's not an option." Dean darkly muttered, sighing when he once again gave in to his brother's logic. "But if those college-nerds of yours try anything, I'll kill them."

"I don't doubt that." Sam shrugged but then leaned back in the chair, finally relaxing a little. "Well, its good you agree though, cause they're coming over first thing tomorrow."

Needless to say, that earned him another incredulous and furious look from Dean.

It was a rainy morning, the heavy grayness almost made it dark inside the house, the daylight unable to convince anyone it really was day. Dean and Castiel waited in the living-room while Sam went outside to greet their just barely welcomed guests on the porch. Bobby had also been informed they were coming and Dean was secretly happy he was present there too, backing them up with riffle in hand if something did happen. However, it was after all his house the strangers would enter.

Dean didn't notice how he was restlessly flexing his left hand at his side, until Castiel took it in his own with a reassuring squeeze, and hence made him look at him instead of the front door. He managed a lopsided smile in an attempt to calm Castiel's worried face and still his questions, but had to lean in for a kiss as if to more calm himself than anything.

"Just stay close, ok?" he murmured and Castiel nodded with a brief smile.

"I trust Sam's judgment."

Dean thoughtfully hummed through closed lips and looked back at the front door, not quite ready to agree on that just yet.

It took a few more tensed minutes of wait and fruitless listening to the mumbled conversation outside, until Sam finally opened the door to let the guests in, and Castiel unwillingly withdrew his hand before anyone could see it. The amateur-hunters took a few steps inside before they got used to the dark of the living-room and hence got their first look of the angel, making the ones in front hesitate in the doorway.

"Go on." Sam restlessly encouraged when they didn't move anymore and Dean couldn't help but finally grin in unexpected amusement at their nervous reactions. They hurdled in through the door as if they were entering a lion's cage, flocking just far enough inside to let Sam follow and close the door. Dean counted them to be seven guys in total just as Sam had said the day before, and to be no different-looking from the nerds Dean had picked on in high-school, rendering their description as college-nerds the most accurate. He measuring looked them over and concluded that he seriously doubted them ever having seen any action at all. Suddenly he now felt like more of the experienced hunter in comparison since having survived three demon-attacks the past few days, and his amusement just grew.

"Evenin', boys." he grinned and to underline what he was going to say he visibly unplugged the safety of his gun. "Lemme just tell you that you're here cause I allow you to. If you even try to do anything, I will shoot you. Or Bobby'll do it for me. Not to mention what my angel'll do to you if you misbehave."

The nerds stared at them in terrified shock, wide-mouthed and all. It wasn't enough seeing an angel for the first time, they had to be threatened by an armed madman at the same time.

"Now, Cas." Dean then murmured conspiringly to the angel on his left.

As they had planned, Castiel made one hell ova good badass-face complete with the lingering black-eye, and unfolded his wings in a sudden movement. Stretched out in all their impressive size, they filled up the room and knocked two chairs over by the mere burst of air in the movement. It had an even better effect than Dean could've imagined, one guy actually fainted and the rest of them took a collective step backwards, almost crushing Sam against the door in it.

"Dean!" he furiously roared and detangled himself out from behind them. "You're such a jerk!"

"What? Just wants to make sure they know the deal." Bobby finally huffed a held-back laughter, but Sam promptly ignored their amusement and instead tended to the fainted nerd.

"Good one, boy." Bobby smirked at Dean and decided it safe now to relax and put his riffle down.

"I did it right?" Castiel confused asked after all the conflicting reactions his movement had gotten, glancing at Dean but still trying to stay in badass-character in front of the college-nerds.

"You did very good." Dean impressed almost laughed and it unarmed Castiel, deflating him down to that beautiful awkward angel that Dean fucking worshipped by now. He reached over and pulled his face closer to his own to kiss him, slowly but deeply, dragging a soft moan out of him which in turn backfired and caused a jolt to hit his own stomach.

A loud deliberate cough caught their attention and it turned out Sam was irritated glaring at them while the college-nerds now stared at them in a different kind of shock.

"What?" Dean asked embarrassed since he'd pretty much forgotten they weren't alone, and Sam's frown deepened.

"We got a situation here, can't that wait?" he accusingly wondered, which made Castiel blush but Dean just shrugged indifferently. "Dean, get a pillow and some water."

"Hey, I'm injured so…"

"Its your fault so do as I say." Sam growled, sure in a terrible mood after his little prank.

"Yeah, alright then." Dean exclaimed in defeat and turned to leave the room with a mumbled last word. "Bitch."

"Jerk." Sam just as defying muttered, and Bobby once again huffed a restrained laughter, just thoroughly enjoying the show.
